Mileage Monday

Hope everyone is having a great 2013 so far, and that you’re all making progress on your goals and resolutions. My goals are coming along. I am taking a short walker break at the moment, but will get back to it today most likely.

Why am I taking a break? I have a tendency to hold the walker with a death grip, and my upper back muscles, arm muscles, and neck are sore. I need to learn to relax and just go. That’s a fear of falling thing. If someone is behind me, I’m fine, but if not, I tense up. Good news is though I used my walker at the chiropractor’s office the other day, I had no problems. Will keep working on it.

Since I’ve been a bit sore, I’ve also not been on my elliptical for a whole week. Whoops. That will start today again also. Luckily, I still have a back log of virtual walk pictures to upload. So, without further jibber jabber, here ya go.

“Silver Yin Zhen Pearls White Tea” Review

I just got this tea from my parents for the 2012 holidays (thanks!), and I can’t find the exact tea on the Teavana website, but I found one that is almost exactly the same. The Silver Needle White Tea. Contains the same ingredients and preparation instructions, but the Silver Yin Zhen Pearls has hand-rolled leaves. I found the information on the Yin Zhen on the Teavana app.
Ingredients include the following:

  • Hand-rolled silver needle white tea

When I first opened the tea tin I smiled. It does in facts look like pearls (green pearls). I even took a picture for you all to see.

When I first smelled it, it smells like green tea only not as strong. Same with the taste, it tastes like a mellow green tea.

The recommended amount to use is 1.5 teaspoons for every 8 ounces of water. The suggested time to steep it says 4 to 5 minutes, but it won’t hurt to steep it longer. It get a little more bitter the longer it sits, but not overpowering. It also contains less caffeine than green tea. This white tea contains about 1% of the caffeine that is in one cup of coffee.

So if you enjoy green tea, but don’t need that much caffeine, this is a good alternative.

“Tranquil Dream Chamomile Herbal Tea” Review

I’ve had this tea for quite a while, but haven’t written about it until now. This is the Tranquil Dream Herbal Tea from Teavana, also called “Night Night”.

The ingredients include:

  • Rosehip peels
  • Citrus peels
  • Chamomile flowers
  • Lemongrass
  • Orange petals
  • Hibiscus flowers
  • Spearmint
  • Flavoring (orange, vanilla, tangerine)

They say you should steep this tea for 5 to 6 minutes and use 1.5 teaspoons for every 8 ounces of water. However, I don’t think it would harm anything to steep it longer. There are a few teas where you should be careful, such as green tea. If you steep some green teas too long, they get really bitter. I usually steep this tea for 6 minutes.

On first sniff, you really smell the orange and citrus peels. You also get a whiff of the spearmint. Upon first drinking, the spearmint is most prevalent in my opinion. The lemongrass stands out as well.

If you’re trying to get off of caffeine, this tea has none. It’s very flavorful, and is a relaxing drink.

My New Year’s Goals (Resolutions)

Happy New Year blog world! I hope everything went for you all in 2012, and I hope you have an even better 2013. I mentioned in my previous blog that I don’t normally do resolutions. If I think of a goal I want to accomplish I don’t wait for the new year to start. Do it now! I only have two things (at the moment) that I want to accomplish this year. I’m sure I’ll think of other things along the way. I’ve already mentioned some of the things I want to work on.

1. Continue progressing on my elliptical. I made a goal back in March 2012 that I wanted to do a full mile with no breaks. Ha! What was I thinking. Then again, that was before my back had four giant knots. I also said I wanted to do 2 miles in one session. That’s still do-able I think, but it would wear me out. My legs don’t seem to have the endurance they once had.

So, my goal is to finish 1/2 mile with no breaks by summer, and then we’ll go from there.

2. I want to consistently use my walker. I’ve said this before, but I think I’ll be able to do it this time. My back has an absolutely mess for years, but since I’ve been going to the chiropractor, I’ve regained some of my abilities. I still need to work of anxiety issues and my fear of falling, but I am determined this time.

3. Continue with my stretching routine in the mornings and in the evenings. This has really helped my flexibility, even more now that my hips are actually straight.

And that’s about it. The hardest one for me is going to be the walker. I have started on this goal, and it’s been going OK. My fear of falling is making my legs tense up, so my legs are sore today. But I’ll take it a minute at a time. I just have to remind myself that no one is watching me or paying attention to what I’m doing, they’re concentrating on what they’re doing. And I have to remind myself I won’t die if I fall.
